While applicants need not be accepted as a student at UofC, they must be pursuing post-secondary studies in Canada and apply during the academic year preceding their enrolment. Awards can range from $1,000 – $10,000 CAD per year.

Who Can Apply?

As an international student studying in Canada, you may be eligible to apply for a generous scholarship granted by The University of Calgary. In order to qualify, applicants must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution and have completed at least one semester of studies, or have graduated from high school in the last 12 months.

There are no limitations on eligibility if you plan to graduate from your current post-secondary institution before June 1st, 2022. To help you pay off some school debt, this could be your opportunity to receive up to $10 000 per year if you’re selected as a recipient.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements?

The international student scholarship program is open to applicants who can provide evidence of active involvement in extracurricular activities that positively impact communities and have a high potential to make a significant global impact.

It is required that candidates be currently enrolled or intending to enrol as a full-time undergraduate degree student at the University of Calgary in September 2021. Eligible applicants will be assessed based on financial need, academic merit, personal history, and an understanding of their interest area in terms of community contribution.

To be considered you must provide evidence that you have done something like tutoring at local schools, improving access to education with libraries in rural villages abroad, or providing health services in disaster areas.

How Do I Apply?

Interested students should fill out an application form and submit it as instructed. Successful applicants will receive a scholarship that covers both tuition and accommodation costs up to CAD$35,000.
Candidates are selected on the basis of financial need, academic merit, and engagement in volunteer work.

How Much Money Do I Get If I’m Awarded a Grant?

-Scholarships are based on a student’s need and merit, with approximately 40% more dollars going to students from low-income families

  • If awarded, the average grant award is $2,500
  • The maximum award amount is $10,000 per year ($100,000 over four years)
  • Awards are made to eligible international students who meet eligibility requirements in both need and merit categories (please see below)
  • Eligibility: Applicants must be entering their first or second year of undergraduate study at the University of Calgary in September 2022. Preference will be given to applicants who reside outside Canada.

This Year’s Deadlines, Important Dates, and Tips

The deadline to apply is on November 3, 2020. The submission process requires you to create a ScholarPort account and upload required documents. Interested students are encouraged to submit a written statement in English outlining their plans after graduation from the university.
