About
The Chevening Scholarship Scheme is the UK government’s global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations. The programme makes awards to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to study postgraduate courses at universities in the United Kingdom.
Chevening Scholarships are awarded to individuals with demonstrable leadership potential who also have strong academic backgrounds. The scholarship offers financial support to cover a scholar’s tuition fees, travel costs, and living expenses for a one-year Master’s degree at any of the participating UK universities.
In addition to the financial award, Chevening Scholarships offer access to a wide range of exclusive academic, professional, and cultural events during your time in the UK.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for a Chevening Scholarship, you must:
- Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country
- Return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your scholarship ends
- Have an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry onto a postgraduate programme at a UK university. This is typically equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honours degree in the UK. If you have not yet completed this qualification, we may accept other evidence of academic potential.
- In addition, if you are from China or Hong Kong and hold dual nationality with any other country, we may consider awarding a Chevening Scholarship to your non-Chinese or non-Hong Kong parent/guardian as long as they live in China or Hong Kong and agree to relocate there for at least five years after the end of their child’s studies abroad.
